After watching the Baz Luhrmann version of R & J, you need to write an opinion piece on what you thought of it. Mention especially setting, characters, portrayal of action by director.
ELIZABETHAN FEAST: THURSDAY, MARCH 5TH
Don't forget to be thinking about your costume.
Hat: wrap a twisted towel around your head and plunk it on top of a long flowing scarf. For boys, plunk a twisted towel around your head with perhaps a feather in it?
Cape: Use an old Hallowe'en costume--Batman or Zorro cape and mask? Tights? Well, maybe not. Fluffy shirt?
Don't forget: Bring some kind of FOOD that might slightly resemble something the Elizabethans would have eaten.
Be prepared to present your project.

February 13th--day before Valentine's Day...does that make it Valentine's Eve?
Friday was a full day. We worked on our short stories, which will soon be sent to the Young Writers Contest in Victoria. After hearing the story of Romeo and Juliet told by yours truly, the students worked on their scenes which they will perform in a week. Don't forget your quick comprehension quiz on R & J Monday!

New Class for English 10 Romeo and Juliet unit
Welcome to English 10! We have a HUGE class this semester, which is fantastic for our purposes. We will be starting our year with Romeo and Juliet, delving into such themes as love vs. hate, gang violence, suicide, arranged marriages and all kinds of interesting themes. We started our unit with Shakespearean insults. Everyone was very insulting and spoke the difficult language surprisingly well! Then we drew pictures of Queen Mab, the fairies' midwife. We will be continuing with the unit next week, deciding on what our Elizabethan feast will look like. Hopefully, everyone will be excited about choosing a theme for the unit and presenting an engaging and entertaining adaptation of any part of the play.
See you Monday!
