Merry Christmas!

We have just finished watching What's Eating Gilbert Grape? I think everyone enjoyed it. Some of the themes that we have been discussing (prejudice, stereotyping, perceptions of beauty, etc.) were very prevalent in this movie. You have done a reflective assignment on it and when you come back from holidays, we will finish this unit. Then we will move on to our media unit and provincial exam prep.

Have a great holiday!!

English 10 is now veering around another corner. Poetry tests, packages, and presentations are done and were very interesting and enlightening. We are now embarking on our next unit--making connections between different genres of media--essays, newspaper reports, stories, poems, songs and film. We will be looking at the format of the Provincial exam and doing some practising towards writing it in January!

Movie next week for your edification and enlightenment: What's Eating Gilbert Grape? You will need to make connections between the movie and the various pieces of writing we are studying, all of which illuminate the themes of perceptions, stereotyping, and pre-judging.

One week til Christmas break!!

poetry potpourri

  • You should be working on your Poetry Potpourri (whatever form that takes!) Most of you have done your song/poem theme synthesis! Good job! All of those need to be completed by the end of this week.
  • Poetry Potpourri completed by next Monday, December 8th!
  • Remember: You do not have to WRITE poetry. You can also READ it with expression and analyze it, or have someone else read it in a recording/video/play, as long as you are the one who analyzes it using your own rubric.
